NISAU’s India UK Achievers Honours and Conference

12 December 2023

We are delighted to partner with NISAU UK (National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK) on the India UK Achievers programme.

This will celebrate UK alumni’s achievements in India and globally and promote the UK as a destination of choice for Indian students. It is organised in partnership with the British Council in India and supported by the Department for Business and Trade, Universities UK International, Chevening, BUILA, and London Higher among other higher education (HE) sector stakeholders.

Three core components form part of the enhanced programme, targeting the complete student lifecycle:

  1. Achievers Honours – open to alumni, current students and student societies to apply across nine categories. Five finalists will be shortlisted per category and invited to attend the gala celebrations in London, where winners and highly commended finalists will be announced.
  2. Achievers Dialogues – targeted at prospective students, showcasing to them the ‘art of the possible’ with a UK education. It will facilitate conversations around key global topics with UK alumni and provide helpful guidance on prospective students’ Study UK journey.
  3. India UK Education Conference – newly commissioned, the inaugural conference aims to provide a strategic platform for leaders in the UK and Indian HE sectors to interact directly with students, alumni and those that support international HE. It will enable the sharing of knowledge and leading practice to shape the future of international education in the India-UK corridor, placing young people at the heart of these conversations. Thematic areas such as the skills agenda, employability, student outcomes, and transnational education will be explored through a series of plenaries, breakouts and keynotes.

UK higher education institutions can support the honours by:

  • Sharing the call for nominations and achievers digital campaign using relevant networks such as alumni associations, India/South Asia teams, staff, current students, and influencers. Use NISAU’s marketing assets and content plan with sample messaging.
  • Verifying the shortlisted finalists as being confirmed alumni/students of your university for the relevant programme of study as submitted by the applicants during the nomination process, within the programme timescales. This will be shared with you by NISAU.
  • Nominating a senior individual from your university to join the gala ceremony on 28 February 2024 in London.
  • Nominating any of your alumni/students/student societies as you deem suitable.

There is no cost for participation.

Nominations will open worldwide on 12 December 2023 for Indian alumni and current students to put their names forward or nominate a friend or family member. The process of selection will be publicised through various media, including engagement in both countries at senior levels. We expect this to be of major interest to students and families considering studying in the UK, as well as Indian alumni and the media. The results of the nomination process will be declared by NISAU at a gala ceremony in London on 28 February 2024 which is expected to be attended by important stakeholders including ministers, vice-chancellors, business leaders and celebrities – among others. There will also be a celebratory reception at the UK parliament on 27 February 2024 where finalists will interact with parliamentarians and special guests.

The day-long India UK Education Conference will take place in London on 28 February 2024.

The celebration of these achievers and their work will culminate into a sector-wide activity to engage prospective students with HEIs, inspiring and encouraging them to choose the UK as their destination of choice.
