Strengthen your expertise and stay prepared with UKCISA training

October 21, 2026

Robert Young, UKCISA’s Training Lead

In the past weeks, we’ve entered the final block of training for 2026 (where has this year gone?) as we spent a day with one of our member institutions delivering a bespoke training session. It made me realise that, taking my time as a member into account, this is now my eleventh year of being engaged in UKCISA training. I know many of you out there can stake a claim for an even longer period of time!

Having worked as a student adviser for several years, I appreciate how this time of year can feel – there’s so much to do, and so much to keep track of. At UKCISA, we want to make sure we are here to give you as many opportunities to learn and build on your expertise as we can offer. As the academic year starts to settle into place, there’s no better time to invest in further developing your knowledge to advise and guide your students and institutions.

What not to miss this autumn

Our biannual flagship webinar ‘Stop Press: recent immigration changes’ is packed with content this year, reflecting the many changes and developments in the past six months. It is always an invigorating session that promises wide-ranging updates and information to enhance your role and ability to navigate students and staff through an ever-changing landscape. We’ll be covering all the need-to-know changes and updates to the Rules and guidance, ensuring you’re ready to go for the academic year ahead. Stop Press will be on 11 November, book your place now to make sure you don’t miss out.

For the first time, we’re also running our ‘Student route refusals and administrative reviews’ course in November. We know that the landscape in international education right now with the tightening of BCA metrics is challenging, and that refusals are a big part of that. You told us that you’d like to see this course run earlier in the year whilst the Summer surge remains fresh in the mind, so we listened! This course will run across two days, 26 and 27 November 2026, so book your places now!

We have much more for you before the end of 2026, including courses on English language requirements, a deep dive into the ever-requested topic of ordinary residence, and the Immigration Advice Authority. Take a look at our Training programme to find the right course for you!

Our courses are responsive and relevant to your needs

Whether or not you’re new to UKCISA training, or have been attending our courses for many years, we are very grateful to you for your engagement. It is always rewarding to connect with all of you, whether we are meeting you at one of our online sessions or at your own institution.

The courses we deliver are developed and delivered in collaboration with trainers from within our membership. This means that, alongside your feedback and what you tell us through our forum and advice line, our courses stay responsive and relevant to your needs. If there’s something we are missing, or something you’d like to see, please tell us!

I’m excited that we’ll be announcing some brand-new courses for 2027 soon, offering more opportunities to learn from sector experts, further develop your skills and connect with colleagues. Make sure you and your team are signed up to our member newsletter and keep your eyes peeled…!

Unsure which course is right for you? Reach out to us at training@ukcisa.org.uk and we will be very happy to help you. We look forward to seeing you soon.
