Scotland 'Long residence' category now in regulations

08 June 2017

The Scottish HE fees regulations now include a 'Long residence' category, and the category has also been added to Scotland's Student Support regulations. This follows the introduction of an interim provision, which we told you about last December. The new, formal provision in the regulations comes into force from 1 August 2017 and will apply to both new and existing students undertaking their studies in the 2017-18 academic year onwards.

To achieve the above changes, The Education (Fees and Student Support) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Scotland) Regulations 2017 were laid before the Scottish Parliament on 2 June. The regulations amend Scotland's HE Fees regulations - The Education (Fees) (Scotland) Regulations 2011 (as amended) - as well as the various sets of regulations that underpin Student Support provision in Scotland.

We have updated our category information for Scotland HE Fees, and we will be updating Scotland Student Support as soon as possible.

Confusingly, the amending regulations appear to make no amendment to Scotland's 'Fees and Awards' Regulations 2007, which are used for FE fees assessment and for certain 'continuing students' in HE. We have queried this with the Scottish Government.
