'Tigere' & applications for Student Support (England)

12 May 2016

Just For Kids Law have produced useful advice and information on the interim policy on student finance (England) to allow people who have a long residential connection to the UK to enter higher education.

This arose from a Supreme Court judgment ('Tigere') which required the government to consider adopting more tailored eligibility criteria for those without settled status. The intention was that the new criteria would avoid breaching the rights of similar applicants.

However, Just For Kids Law have reported that it has been very difficult for students to achieve any success with their applications under the interim policy for the current 2015-16 academic year. And for the forthcoming 2016-17 academic year, students will have to wait until they can apply under the new Student Support regulations that are expected some time soon.
