From the end of October 2014, Chinese nationals who have a UK student visitor visa, or one of many other UK visit visas, can also use that visa to travel to the Republic of Ireland . This will be extended to Indian nationals later this year.
Travel to Ireland must take place after arrival in the UK.
The scheme works both ways. This means that an Irish visit visa applied for after the scheme comes into force can be used for travel to the UK, after arrival in Ireland.
The application for the visit visa must be made in China or in India.
The Home Office has not yet set an exact date for launch of the scheme, but it has published some information about the British-Irish visit visa.
