Temporary closure of visa application centre in Libya

22 July 2014

Due to the current security situation in Libya the UK’s visa application centre in Tripoli has been closed to new applicants. As there are no other visa application centres in Libya the Home Office have provided us with details of alternative arrangements for applying for entry clearance:

“We have designated Tunis as the application point for Libyans and customers have been advised of alternative application arrangements via the gov.uk and visa application centre websites

If you are resident in Libya and need to apply for a UK visa you should make arrangements to submit your application at the visa application centre in Tunisia. In addition to the visa application fee there is a separate 'user fee' (£59 or equivalent local currency) that is charged when using the centre in Tunis. You can pay this fee by credit card on the visa application centre website before you attend your appointment. Alternatively you pay by cash when you attend your appointment.

The Home Office have confirmed that they are keeping the situation under constant review and “hope to be able to resume the service shortly”.
