Working together for international students | #LoveOurColleges #WeAreInternational

Forged from a shared belief in delivering a world-class international student experience, the Association of Colleges (AoC) and UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) are proud to be working in partnership to support international students and the colleges where they choose to study.

Specifically, we work together to:

  • Support colleges and their international students with immigration queries
  • Provide training, guidance and best practice for the college sector
  • Highlight the immigration policy factors that constrain international recruitment to the college sector

Central to this, we are advocating for a fairer immigration system, which delivers an improved customer journey for international students, and recommending policy solutions to government in collaboration with the wider international education sector.

For colleges, this is especially critical. While we welcome the improvements laid out in the new points-based immigration system – with the Student Route simplifying the system for all international students and the new Graduate Route opening up possibilities for skilled graduates – there is still more to do. We will continue to work together to secure a fairer system for all international students.

Colleges are central to their communities – they contribute to the skills agenda, create opportunities for local students to meet other young people from different parts of the world, and provide a pipeline to higher education institutions across the UK. Ensuring this pipeline remains open will ensure the UK Government meets the ambitions laid out in its International Education Strategy to increase the number of international students studying in the UK.

With the dual impacts of Covid-19 and Brexit, finding ways to highlight and champion the interconnected nature of the UK’s international education sector has never been more important.

We invite you to join us in celebrating our global links and the diversity in our communities this Colleges Week and beyond by showing your support for the #WeAreInternational campaign
