Fraud warning: New telephone scam affecting international students

17 October 2013

Over the last year or so, there have been several versions of a scam where students, or their family members in their home country, are telephoned by people pretending to be from the Home Office. We have heard this week of a new scam where the phone call appears to have been made from the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC). The OISC have been made aware of this and have put a warning up on their website at oisc.homeoffice.gov.uk/latest_information/press_releases/fraud_warning/.

As in the OISC web item, any such fraudulent call should be reported to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at www.actionfraud.police.uk.
