Suspension of IELTS testing in China

07 February 2020

We are aware of the suspension of IELTS testing in mainland China until March at the earliest, as a result of the Coronavirus restrictions.

IELTS colleagues have informed us that the team in China are in contact with NEEA (the Chinese Education department), and are looking into a range of options to allow testing to resume as soon as possible in order to minimise disruption to both test takers and organisations relying on IELTS scores. They are also planning to hold additional test sessions as soon as permitted to resume testing, to ensure that we have capacity for those who need to take IELTS, as quickly as possible, for an Admissions decision.

In the meantime, members can contact ielts.organisations@britishcouncil.org to advise them of any plans to delay admissions deadlines or entry, and they will collate this information.
