The second phase of the EU settlement scheme trial starts today, expanding to include staff in higher education institutions throughout the UK from 15 November 2018.
Those who are thinking of applying might be interested in reading the Home Office's report on phase 1, which included staff and students in three Liverpool universities. All 1,053 applicants were granted either settled status (indefinite leave) or pre-settled status (limited leave). The report sets out how they found the process and the improvements which will be made in response to their feedback. It deals with how they provided proof of identity, including the 'chip checker' app, how they submitted documents (when required), and how evidence of status was provided, on average within nine days of having applied.
The Home Office aims to publish its expected processing times for phase 2 from later this month.
