Changing Lives For Good

Last modified: 16 November 2018
In 2018 we’re inviting the whole international education sector to celebrate #ChangingLivesforGood. Over the past 50 years 5 million international students have come to study in the UK. Not just transforming and changing their own lives but influencing the communities around them. 2018 is a particularly special year for the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA, formerly UKCOSA) as it marks 50 years since we were established way back in the summer of 1968. We were created initially as an amalgamation of a number of regional Councils of Overseas Student Affairs, in London, Manchester, Scotland, etc with the support of the Overseas Student Trust.

We now have a membership which includes every university in the UK, the majority of further education colleges which are active internationally and a range of specialist and representative bodies.

To celebrate our anniversary in 2018 we asked students and colleagues to share photos and stories about how they are #ChangingLivesForGood. A selection of photos were featured in a 2018 calendar and you’ll spot them used throughout our website this year.

Our celebrations have also included:

  • The 50th anniversary UKCISA conference in Edinburgh in June featured a number of major keynote speakers from the UK and overseas and
  • A Parliamentary Reception in November at the House of Commons, to recognise and celebrate all those who have worked so hard to support international students over all of those years.

Join in!

Share your experiences, stories and thoughts about how international students and the sector are #ChangingLivesForGood. Perhaps you’ve got a story about a student making a difference in a community, or a contribution that has been made through international education. You can email us and we'll post it on our newswall or use the hashtag on Twitter and Facebook.

Please also add the #ChangingLivesForGood logo to email signatures and encourage others to share their experiences!

We think it is especially important at this time to recognise the huge benefits which our international students bring to our economy, our campuses and our communities.
