Tier 4 appeals

This course will enable experienced immigration advisers working with international students to assist students who have had their application for Tier 4 immigration permission refused.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • have an overview of the processes involved in appealing a refusal of Tier 4 immigration permission
  • advise on options available to someone who has had their Tier 4 leave curtailed
  • identify which refused applications attract the right of appeal
  • draft grounds of appeal

This course is suitable for:

student advisers in institutions and their students' unions who are experienced in dealing with Tier 4 applications, and are able and competent to advise students whose applications for leave under the Tier 4 (general) route have been refused or whose Tier 4 leave has been curtailed. Please note that this course will not deal with rejected Tier 4 applications. Advisers interested in learning more about rejections may wish to consider attending our 'Tier 4 in Practice' course.

The course is intended to reflect activity at Level 3 (in relation to dealing with student-related appeals) of the OISC's Guidance on Competence.
