Basic advisory skills for those working with international students
- Course aim
The course is aimed at staff who provide advice to international students. It will not cover detailed technical issues (eg fees, immigration) but will focus instead on the skills needed to advise and issues that arise in the process of giving advice. This is a highly participative course.
Course objectives
Participants will be able to:
- identify the main objectives of the advice process
- identify the key stages of the advice process
- develop their interviewing skills

Course details
This course is suitable for:
staff new to an advice role, and more experienced staff wishing to consolidate
their experience; it is also suitable as a follow up to our ‘New advisers’
course.
Please note: this course does NOT cover specific advice areas such as
immigration or fee status.
This course is a component of the Certificate for International Education
Professionals.
(NB Certificate students are advised to attend the ‘New Advisers’ course beforehand, although it is not a requirement for the Certificate)
