This course will give experienced advisers, who are directly involved with helping international students make immigration applications, the opportunity to consider how best to deal with difficult applications and refusals of Tier 4 leave. Participants will be expected to discuss their relevant experience during the course, where appropriate.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- know how and when to refer to an appropriate external organisation
- know how and when variation applications can be made
- know what could lead to an application being refused under the general grounds of refusal
- be able to advise on the appropriate course of action following a refusal of Tier 4 leave to remain or Tier 4 entry clearance
- know what to do if documents have been retained following a refusal of leave
- know options available to a student if no appeal is going to be lodged
- be able to advise those who stay beyond their immigration permission (‘overstayers’) about their options and the risks, if any, of those options
This course is suitable for:
those who are experienced immigration advisers. Therefore advisers
must:
- have attended our ‘Principles of Tier 4’ and either ‘Tier 4 in practice’ or ‘Making a Tier 4 application’ courses or equivalent; and
- have at least 2 years’ worth of experience of advising on, and helping students to make, immigration applications within the framework of the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner’s (OISC) requirements
