This course will enable anyone working in an institution which recruits, or is intending to recruit, international students to have an overview and understanding of Tier 4 of the Points Based Immigration System. We focus on Tier 4 (General) but do cover Tier 4 (Child) when relevant.
By the end of this course, participants will be:
- identify the principles of Tier 4 and how they affect the institution
- consider the responsibilities and duties of a Tier 4 sponsor and how these have an impact on institutional policies and processes
- advise colleagues on the requirements of Tier 4, particularly in relation to the courses that the institution can offer to Tier 4 students
- identify who can be issued with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
- consider issues that may arise when generating a CAS
- introduce key points of basic good practice
This course is suitable for:
anyone who works with international students directly or who is involved in developing and implementing institutional processes which affect international students. Before attending this course, delegates will be expected to have attended the UKCISA training course 'An introduction to UK immigration' or already have a basic knowledge of the UK immigration system.
Those who advise international students directly on immigration applications should also plan to attend UKCISA's 'Making a Tier 4 application'' course after having completed this course. We will not deal with how to make immigration applications on this course.
If you are not involved with assigning CAS yourself, please arrange with the appropriate person in your institution to see how this is done before you attend this course
Please note: this course involves reading online materials in advance, in order to participate in case studies and discussions.
